Installation guide
How far can a PoE camera be from the switch?
Distance decides which setup you need. Up to 100 m is normal Ethernet. Up to 250 m works with NEXELTRON Extend mode. Longer than that, use fibre through an SFP port.
Three distance ranges
| Distance from switch | What to use |
|---|---|
| Up to about 100 m | Normal mode. Standard Ethernet range. |
| 100 m to 250 m | NEXELTRON Extend mode — reaches up to 250 m at reduced speed, which is enough for CCTV. |
| More than 250 m / another building | Optical fibre into an SFP port. Choose a model with SFP. |
Cable tips for long runs
- Use good quality Cat6 cable with pure copper conductors. Cheap copper-clad (CCA) cable loses more power over distance and often causes cameras to reboot.
- Use one continuous run where possible. Every joint adds loss.
- Keep data cable away from heavy power cables.
- Outdoors, use outdoor-rated cable and protect the ends from water.
Models with SFP (for fibre)
4Gb + 1 SFP · 8Gb + 1 SFP · 16FE + 1 SFP · 16Gb + 2 SFP · 24FE + 2 SFP
All NEXELTRON switches also have 2KV surge protection to help ports survive power spikes.
Frequently asked questions
What is the maximum PoE cable length?
Standard Ethernet reaches about 100 m. NEXELTRON switches have an Extend mode that reaches up to 250 m at reduced speed, which is enough for CCTV.
PoE camera switch se kitni door laga sakte hain?
Normal 100 metre tak. NEXELTRON ke Extend mode se 250 metre tak. Isse zyada door ya doosri building ho to SFP port se fibre lagayein.
Which cable is best for long PoE runs?
Good quality Cat6 with pure copper conductors. Avoid copper-clad aluminium (CCA) cable for long PoE runs.
